Components of an evaluation can include:
- Medical history/interview
- Otoscopy:An otoscope potentially gives a view of the ear canal and tympanic membrane or ear drum.Direct observation of the tympanic membrane and external auditory canal through an otoscope, offers valuable information about possible disease within the external and middle ear.
- Puretone audiometry(PTA) :Pure-tone audiometry determines the quietest tones that a person can hear at different frequencies, both low and high.The results are plotted on the audiogram. PTA helps in determination of the degree, type and configuration of a hearing loss.The results also help the audiologist determine if the hearing loss is originating from the outer/middle ear or from the inner ear.
- Speech audiometry: A speech reception threshold (SRT) test is used to confirm the results of a pure-tone audiometry. This test determines the lowest level at which the patient can recognize words or speech stimuli. Speech audiometry mimics real life situations and assesses the potential to improve your hearing with the use of hearing aids.This also provides information regarding discomfort or tolerance to speech stimuli and information on word recognition abilities.Information gained by speech audiometry can help determine proper gain and maximum output of hearing aids.
- Tympanometry: It is used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the tympanic membrane and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. Tympanometry permits the distinction between sensorineural and conductive hearing loss.
- Acoustic reflex(stapedial reflex): Acoustic reflex and Tympanometry are commonly used to assess middle ear function.This allows to indirectly assess the middle ear, cochlea,and neural innervation of the stapedius muscle.
- Highly Advanced Hearing Aids with Bluetooth Connectivity:Bluetooth technology help hearing aid users to connect their hearing aids to various devices for improved sound quality directly from the sound source.Bluetooth hearing aid accessories allow an individual to wirelessly connect to cell phones, landlines, TVs, tablets and computers. This means hands-free listening in stereo through the hearing aids at a level set for the listeners hearing loss.
- Real Ear Measurements: Hearing aids require precision and customization to maximize results for patients. Individual ears are very different between patients, and occasionally one ear can even differ from the other ear on the same patient! The only way to truly account for those individual ear differences is, to take Real ear measurements for achieving a proper hearing aid fit.
- Custom Ear Molds and Plugs
We provide custom hearing protection as well as custom molds for iPods. We also sell Musician Plugs ER-9, 15, 25 and Musician’s Monitors. Please contact our office for more details.
